Celebrating Picture This

On 12th April, we celebrated the conclusion of our fourth edition of six-week photography and writing course, Picture This, which has been running at Turner Contemporary in Margate.

“I didn’t know what to expect. The diagnosis doesn’t matter here, and I don’t have to hide it. In other places there is pressure of being on the spot. This has been accepting, which has made me happy to be involved.”

Led by photographers Jen Holland and Miriam Simmons, and author Liz Jennings, the sessions produced extraordinary photographs and blossoming relationships between participants, artists and volunteers.

With a showstopping camera cake baked by our volunteer, Sahara, dedicated photo books created for each of our participants, and an appearance by the newest member of the group, three-week-old Benjamin, a spectacular time was had by participants, their guests and supporters, artists and volunteers, celebrating the connections we’ve made through creativity.

“I appreciate my surroundings much more, I look at things differently. I now look at buildings and my surroundings, instead of just going from A-B. I am now more curious.”

Picture This Participant, 2024

While this series of sessions has come to a close, we are thrilled to be developing a pilot online camera club for Picture This participants from any of the courses we’ve run since 2023. Led by Liz Jennings and Miriam Simmons, alongside our dedicated team of volunteers, participants will complete independent photography exercises before coming together to share their creations each month.
