Going the extra mile
Miriam cycles from Lands’ End to Dover in aid of Bright Shadow

Our dear friend and Bright Shadow artist, Miriam Simmons, is gearing up to cycle solo from Land’s End to Dover to raise funds for Bright Shadow. Miriam’s journey will take her all the way across southern England, cycling over 500 miles – and potentially many more, as she’s no stranger to getting a bit lost – relying on bike-packing, wild camping, youth hostelling and staying the odd night with friends along the way.
Inspired by her late father’s experience with dementia, Miriam’s journey is personal and purposeful, fulfilling her ambition to raise funds to help people with dementia live happy, healthy lives.
“Dementia care is so important and often misunderstood. Bright Shadow does wonders for participants living with dementia by embracing creativity in innovative ways.”
Follow Miriam’s journey and support her challenge here.
Miriam has already pedalled well past her initial fundraising goal of £800 – £1 for every kilometre she’ll be cycling. If you’ve been inspired by her story, please help keep the momentum going and support Bright Shadow’s vital work.

“I want to challenge myself mentally and physically, to reboot my self-confidence, to make me stronger and more resilient. I had a couple of mental blows this year that took its toll on me and really shook me up which affected my self-confidence. I noticed I was internalising my feelings which wasn’t helping. This adventure will give me time to reset, reflect and reboot.”
Feeling inspired? Why not take on your own challenge or host a fundraising event in support of Bright Shadow? Whether it’s a bake sale, a sponsored walk, or something uniquely you, your effort can help bring creativity and joy to people living with dementia. Get in touch – we’d love to support your idea!
